Outre la suppression de la petite fenêtre de type déflecteur, on remarque aussi le remplacement du volant, désormais très similaire aux autres modèles du groupe (nouvelles Corrado, Passat, T4...). Le bouton de warning est en même temps déporté derrière le volant. Si la forme est certainement moins originale (on pense en particulier aux versions GTI), la prise en main est très bonne. Les versions les plus chères seront dotées d'un pourtour en cuir, comme ici, et de fait plus rare et recherché. Les Golf 1 cabriolet, également restylées, seront équipées du même volant. Attention toutefois à bien vérifier le moyeu, qui peut varier.
