Durant la Première Guerre mondiale, et même dans les années qui suivirent, on pouvait ainsi trouver sur certaines voitures de telles effigies transformées en bouchons de radiateur, faisant ici symboliquement la « nique » au Kaiser Wilhelm, dernier empereur déchu de l’Empire allemand. L’histoire ne nous dit pas si ce dernier eut connaissance de ce genre d’effigies. Mais compte tenu de son tempérament et de sa susceptibilité légendaire, on peut imaginer que le second degré ne figurait probablement pas parmi ses qualités les plus développées ;).
